Voices…Voices…

Much like in any of Manny Pacquiao’s world title boxing matches, the Filipino southpaw would always hear boohs and not-so-nice tirades from a hostile crowd, be it at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas or at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, the site of his sensational 10th-round stoppage of Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003.

Yet, in all those boohs, Pacquiao manages to get his ears near his American trainer Freddie Roach every time the bell rings to signal the end of a round.

Boxers like Pacquiao only has two choices when he hears scathing remarks from people—react by focusing on the negative words he hears or brush them aside and just focus on the words of his trainer.

And like Pacquiao, we too can hear voices sometimes that tend to belittle us or bring down a heavy yoke of discouragement on us.

I’ve had my share of discouragements in life, but they all happen when I begin to lend my pair of ears on that “voice” that could well represent a lot of things nowadays.

In our time, we hear all sorts of voices—voice of rejection (when you just lost your job or when you tried sharing your faith to somebody and that person suddenly left you hanging as you speak); voice of fear (that when entertained gives you goose bumps, fearful thoughts or imaginations that melt your confidence); voice of uncertainty (when you’re in a crossroads of decision); voice of discouragement (when you just don’t seemed to have the strength anymore to continue).

All of us hear these voices all the time.

But there’s one voice that inflates our confidence back.

Psalm 29:4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. v. 5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.”

Talk about voices, the Lord’s voice is powerful! It smashes right through the seemingly impenetrable wall of doubt, fear insecurity, discouragement, etc.

When we choose to listen to God’s voice, we can be assured of His direction, His purpose, His will, and most of all, we’ll be reminded that we are His children (John 1:12).

Whose voice are you listening to?
