Fajardo’s Upsurge In The PBA

I’m really impressed with how June Mar Fajardo has improved so far as he begins adjusting to his new life in the pro league.

He has played four PBA preseason games, thus far. And he has been improving a lot every game day.

Of course, preseason games are far from the real games of the regular season, but tune up matches somehow gives rookies like Fajardo a feel of the game and what to expect in the future.

The 6’9” Fajardo has a decent touch from the perimeter. He’s got gentle hands that suits well for him whenever he shoots free throws.

With 13 days to go before the opening of the PBA’s 38th season, I would be one of the interested spectators excited to see how Fajardo would battle the pro league’s big boys like Yancy de Ocampo and Marc Pingris of San Mig Coffee, Barangay Ginebra’s Billy Mamaril, Rudy Hatfield and Kerby Raymundo, along with the Rain or Shine’s “bruise brothers” Beau Belga and JR Quinahan.

Well, just today (Sept. 17), Fajardo grabbed 23 rebounds as he imposed his will in the paint. He grabbed 17 boards against Barako Bull when they met last week.

Bobby Parks, Sr., Fajardo’s coach when he played for San Miguel Beer last season in the Asean Basketball League, is convinced the 6’9” bulky Petron center is the real deal.

Parks knows that as Fajardo continues to learn from the best big men in the pro league like two-time MVP Danny Ildefonso and even the 6’7” veteran Dorian Pena, the Cebuano behemoth would eventually be a force to reckon with.

Hopefully, Fajardo lives up to his immense potential with Petron, and who knows, with the national team in the future.
