What Filipinos Need To Learn From Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao’s stinging non-title bout defeat at the hands of long-time boxing nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez on Sunday (Dec. 9) was one bitter pill Pinoys couldn’t swallow.

The millions of Filipino supporters of Pacquiao were obviously expecting an emphatic fight closure from the Pambansang Kamao. But as it turned out, it was Pacquiao who got emphatically knocked out just before the end of that fateful sixth round.

Pacman KOWhile the loss is hard to accept, considering that for so many years, we Filipino fans are used to seeing him win his fights on a Sunday (the usual Pacquiao fight schedule), hopefully, we all learn from the Pac-man’s response shortly after emerging from the hospital for the routine post-fight checkup.

“Maganda ‘yung laban namin. Balik na ‘yung aggressiveness ko. Talagang natiyempuhan lang tayo,” Pacquiao told ABS-CBN during the television interview hours after the fight.

And here’s what he said regarding the defeat.

“Sa larangan ng sports, may panalo at may talo. Dapat handa ka rin na tanggapin kapag dumating na ang panahon na talo,” he added.

Pacquiao is no super human, who will always end up victorious. For sure, it will greatly help the Pac-man recover fast psychologically and emotionally from defeat when we, his kababayan pray for him and speak blessing instead of curse to his career.

After all, Pacquiao has brought so much joy, pride and global recognition to the Philippines.

And in his moment of agony and defeat, our support is what he truly needs.
