Worn-out LA Tenorio, Ginebra Ponders Future

LA Tenorio looked worn out after Barangay Ginebra’s Philippine Cup semifinals bid ended with an 89-102 Game Three sudden death defeat at the hands of Rain or Shine on Sunday night at the Big Dome.

LA-SiotThe former Ateneo star playmaker led the team (along with center Billy Mamaril) with 20 points, to go along with seven rebounds and three assists after playing for 40 minutes.

But while Gin Kings coach Siot Tanquingcen intended to push the tempo when he inserted Tenorio, Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand in a three-guard combo during the final period, the Ginebra “tenyete” felt it may have backfired in the end.

“Di ko alam ano nangyari eh. Kami yung naubusan eh kahit na three guards kami sa loob. Siguro mas marami silang players na naro-rotate. Naghahabol na kami eh…tapos ako 40 minutes nilaro ko, so siguro napagod na rin,” observed Tenorio.

With Rain or Shine’s defense airtight on the perimeter, Tenorio had difficulty setting the plays for the Gin Kings.

He also had three turnovers in the game as he had to battle the taller Chris Tiu on defense and later on, the heavier and yet, quicker Paul Lee, who posted him up often during the game.

As Tenorio and the rest and the Gin Kings ponder on what happened to their failed championship bid for the Philippine Cup, the Christmas season is an opportunity also to get refreshed and perhaps, begin their early preparation for the Commissioner’s Cup, where teams are allowed to get an import with “unlimited” height.

“Bawi na lang next conference. Ganun talaga eh. We fell short. Gasgas na linya na iyan pero we fell short talaga eh,” he added.
