James Yap, Injured But Raring To Play

James Yap arrived Thursday morning at the Hoops Center hoping he could join the team’s practice.

But since he was feeling slight pain on his right knee, he was advised by the team’s medical staff to just rest it.

YapHis leg was packed with ice during my chat with the 6’2″, two-time PBA Most Valuable Player.

“First time ko nakaranas ng ganitong sakit,” Yap said. ” Kaya natakot ako, baka (torn)  ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).”

Yap shared he’s not used to just sitting down during practice and watch his teammates go through the plays.

“Dati kasi kahit may masakit, laro lang ako. Ganito pala pakiramdam,” added Yap.

But one thing he said is sure, even if he had to play through pain, he’ll do it to help San Mig Coffee in its current best-of-seven semifinals series against Rain or Shine.

As of today, the Mixers are out to level their series at one apiece with a victory following their listless 83-91 loss to the Elasto Painters on Wednesday.

Yap though is glad, he doesn’t have to do alone because he has the reliable PJ Simon to back him up on offense. Then he’s got a lot of big guys who can do the job on the rebounding and defensive end like Yancy de Ocampo, Rafi Reavis and Joe Devance.
