Tenorio Hopes Up-tempo Style Will Turn Ginebra’s Fortunes

Barangay Ginebra appears to be out of the radar as far as the pre-Commissioner’s Cup favorites are concerned.

The Gin Kings placed just third in the four-team pocket tournament in Cebu City last weekend, beating the hapless M.Lhuillier Ninos for their lone victory in the Sinulog Cup.

LA Tenorio- httpwww.spin.phsportsbasketballnewsthree-kings-draw-energy-from-electric-atmosphereLA Tenorio, Barangay Ginebra’s new court general, said the rest he got during the Holiday break gave him enough time to recover from his nagging elbow injury, which hampered his movement during the season-opening Philippine Cup.

“Okay na yung elbow ko, kailangan lang talagang ipahinga,” Tenorio said.

The team has undergone coaching change at the start of the New Year as management installed Alfrancis Chua as the new head coach, while moving erstwhile bench tactician to the role of assistant.

Tenorio said the team is running well so far under Chua even though the Gin Kings won just once in Cebu.

With Chua injecting a run-and-gun system, he feels the team has a strong fighting chance this time in the Commissionr’s Cup since the Gin Kings have athletic wing players and big men who can run the floor well.

In fact, Tenorio said even veteran big men like Billy Mamaril, Kerby Raymundo and Rudy Hatfield are running and doing the half-court or full-court press on the defensive end.

“We have more freedom to execute kay coach Al. But we also play defense. Ganun naman talaga since wala kaming dominating na big guy kaya lahat tumatakbo. Speed ang main weapon namin,” added Tenorio was traded to Barangay Ginebra prior to the start of the PBA’s 38th season.

Will Chua’s coaching presence make a difference for the talented but underachieving Gin Kings this season?
