What Japeth Aguilar Needs To Keep Doing

It’s just one game, but Globalport new coach Junel Baculi is convinced that Japeth Aguilar will soon develop into a formidable force.

Japeth soloThe 26-year-old Aguilar debuted for his new PBA team with 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in 37 minutes of action as he played a key role in Globalport’s 94-92 upset win against Petron Blaze Friday night.

“Yung bata marami pang ipapakita,” Baculi said on the athletic Aguilar.

“Raw pa nga talent niya eh. Pero ang importante dun may fighting heart siya. I think he wants to prove something to PBA fans, which is good for him and good also for our team,” added a beamed Baculi.

Aguilar said he tries as hard as he can to focus on his job, which is to grab rebounds and play defense, since he’s aware that a lot of people have high expectations on him.

“Nakaka-intimiate yung crowd. Pero I just try to focus on the game and stay within the system and play hard,” said the soft-spoken former Ateneo Blue Eagle.

Aguilar admits he still has a lot to learn in the PBA, considering that this is the first time he played this long and being in the game during the crucial stretch.

“Kailangan ko pang mag-adjust sa crunch time. Kasi crunch time mistakes is huge eh so kailngan ko pa mag focus at marunong bumasa sa situation,” added the 2009 top rookie pick of Burger King.

Hopefully, Aguilar continues to work hard and keep learning.

Given his height, his leaping ability and the skills he has for a big man, there’s no doubt he can turn into a dominant force someday.
